About CMHC

The Connecticut Mental Health Center is a landmark partnership between the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. Founded in 1966, CMHC is an urban community mental health center in New Haven’s Hill neighborhood and one of the first centers of its kind in the country established after President Kennedy’s pioneering 1963 legislation.  CMHC serves over 5,000 men and women every year, all of whom have little or no income or insurance.  The Center has an exceptional tradition of supporting individuals living with serious mental illnesses such as psychosis, depression, anxiety, and also those with addictions or co-occurring mental health and addiction problems.
