Ongoing Projects

The following projects have received ongoing financial support from the CMHC Foundation. You can support these projects here

  • Bench Haven (2023) partnership with the New Haven Office of Community Mental Health Initiatives and the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, locally crafted bright orange benches for neighbors to connect with each other’s shared humanity, based on Friendship Benches started in Zimbabwe.
  • CMHC Street Psychiatry (2020) providing supplies such as sleeping bags, tents, personal care items, and seasonal clothing to help the CMHC Street Psychiatry team engage with and support people experiencing homelessness.
  • Community Mental Health Fellows (2018) partnership with Dwight Hall at Yale to provide clicnial and research internships for Yale undergraduate students who want to gain experience and explore careers in public mental health.
  • Good Neighbor Garden (2013) partnership with Gather New Haven, Hill North Neighborhood Association, and Advanced Rehabilitation and Nursing to establish and maintain the Hill North Community Garden on the corner of Sylvan and Asylum streets a 2-block walk from CMHC.
  • CMHC Arts & Humanities (2013) improving the environment at CMHC through innovative projects in creative and performing arts as well as the humanities.
  • CMHC Cycles (2013) partnership with Bradley Street Bicycle Co-op promoting increased bicycle commuting, recreation and safety through education, advocacy and facility improvements at CMHC.
  • CMHC Courtyard Garden (2010) past partnerships with NewAlliance FoundationCommon Ground & Green Village Initiative, making it possible for CMHC clients, staff, and volunteers to grow and enjoy fresh food and flowers together in CMHC’s courtyard garden.
  • CMHC Spiritual Services (2008) promoting spiritual dimensions of wellness through the use of the Foundation-funded canvas labyrinth, special guests, and other spirtual resources.
  • Financial Health Project (2011) using insights from microfinance and social determinants of health to understand and reduce financial stress and address financial dimensions of wellness and recovery.
